WPC teams up with
Parkinson Society British Columbia and PD Avengers to launch Parkinson
Ready program in Vancouver. Why Vancouver? More than 100,000 people live
in Canada with Parkinson’s, more than 17,500 of them reside in of
British Columbia. Vancouver is not only home to many people living with
Parkinson’s disease (PD), but also a world-class city that attracts
tourists from around the globe via plane, train, car and cruise ship,
and some of those tourists have Parkinson’s. To help demystify
Parkinson’s and minimize the stress of traveling while living with PD,
the World Parkinson Coalition has teamed up with the Parkinson Society
British Columbia and PD Avengers to offer its “Parkinson Ready”
program to the city of Vancouver. This is the first time the program is
being offered to a city that is not hosting the World Parkinson
Congress. We have decided that it’s too important of a training to offer
it only to cities that host the triannual WPC and so we have taken the
program on the road and are starting in the city of Vancouver.
Training will kick off on Friday, August 9th at the JW Marriott. Additional trainings for airport staff, Vancouver Convention Centre staff, security personnel and others, will take place on Monday and Tuesday, November 25 and 26 in downtown Vancouver.
